Every housewife has her favourite recipes for cake, bread and cookies. We want to share some of our best recipes with you. Try them and use the flour from Wilkanowo Mill. Bon apetit!

WHOLEMEAL WHEAT BREAD

The traditional recipe for bread from ‘Kosowska vegetarian cuisine’ published in 1929 by M. Arcta in Warsaw. Tested by housewives from Wilkanowo.

Ingredients:

  • 5 litres of wholemeal wheat flour
  • 2 1/2 litres of water
  • 5 decagrams of yeast
  • •1/2 - 1 teaspoon of salt

Recipe:
Sift the flour through a sieve with big holes (in order to keep the precious bran). Soak yeast in a glass of warm water; 2 litres of flour mix with the water and yeast, leave for 2 hours in 30°C. When the yeast start to rise, add a spoon of salt and the rest of the flour. Mix and leave for half an hour. Make 5-6 loaves of bread, put them in the buttered baking trays (dough should fill 1/3 of a tray). Leave the loaves in 30°C. When they rise and fill most of the tray, spread some mixed egg on the top and put them into the hot oven. Bake for half an hour, at most 45 min.
